Bhakti Jap ("we", "our", or "the app") is a personal mantra counting application built with devotion and respect for your privacy. This policy explains clearly what data we collect, what we don't, and how your spiritual practice data is handled.
Data We Collect
Bhakti Jap is designed to work entirely on your device. The only data involved in the app's core function is your personal practice data — mantra counts, daily goals, streaks, and your name — all of which is stored exclusively on your device.
- Mantra counter names and daily goal settings
- Your daily and lifetime chant counts
- Streak history and last completed date
- Your display name (optional)
- Theme preference (saffron or dark)
- Notification time preferences
None of this data is transmitted to us or any third party unless you explicitly choose to back it up to your own Google Drive account.
Data We Do Not Collect
We have deliberately built Bhakti Jap to require as little data as possible. The following are things we never collect:
- Your real name, email address, or any identity information
- Device identifiers, advertising IDs, or fingerprints
- Location data of any kind
- Usage analytics, session recordings, or crash reports sent to us
- Contact lists, camera, microphone, or any unrelated device access
- Any data about your religious beliefs or practices beyond what you enter
Local Storage
All your practice data is stored using AsyncStorage on your device — the same secure, sandboxed storage used by all iOS and Android applications. This data is:
- Only accessible by the Bhakti Jap app — no other app can read it
- Deleted automatically if you uninstall the app
- Never synced automatically to any cloud service without your action
- Not shared with us or any server at any time
Your Android home screen widget reads this data locally on-device via SharedPreferences — the same sandboxed system. It does not transmit any data externally.
Google Drive Backup
Bhakti Jap offers an optional backup feature that saves your data to your own personal Google Drive. This is entirely opt-in — nothing is backed up unless you tap the backup button.
- You sign in with your Google account via Google's official Sign-In SDK
- Your data is saved to a private appDataFolder in your own Drive — invisible to you in Drive UI and inaccessible to any other app
- We never see, store, or have access to your Google credentials or Drive data
- The backup file contains only your mantra counts, streak, and settings — nothing else
- You can delete the backup at any time from Google Drive settings
Your use of Google Drive backup is also subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
Notifications
Bhakti Jap can send you local push notifications — daily practice reminders and streak nudges. These are scheduled entirely on your device by the operating system.
- Notifications work completely offline — no server is involved
- No notification content or interaction data is sent to us
- You can enable, disable, or change notification times at any time in Settings
- Notification permission can be revoked in your device's system settings
Analytics & Advertising
Bhakti Jap contains no analytics tools, no tracking SDKs, and no advertisements of any kind. We do not use Firebase Analytics, Facebook SDK, Mixpanel, or any similar service.
We do not sell, rent, or share any data with advertisers or data brokers — because we do not collect any data to share.

Children's Privacy
Bhakti Jap does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. The app does not require account creation, age verification, or any personal information to function. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, please contact us and we will ensure it is removed.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "last updated" date at the top of this page and, for material changes, notify you within the app. Your continued use of Bhakti Jap after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
We will never introduce data collection practices that conflict with this policy's core commitment: your spiritual practice data belongs to you.
